Tablet Sales Reach 10m Per Quarter – Nearly One Quarter Are On Android

The latest research published by market research company Strategy Analytics, has found that Android’s momentum is not limited to mobile devices but is also showing big gains in the tablet market.

According to the research during Q.4 2010, 22% of the 10 million tablet devices that where shipped ran on Android. Overall the market grew by 120% sequentially with Apple maintaining it’s leading position with 75% of global market share.

While Apple is still the dominant maker of tablets, it’s market share has slipped from 95% during Q.3 2010, in part due to the rising competition in the market.

Neil Mawston, Director at Strategy Analytics, added, “Android tablet volumes experienced 2000 percent sequential growth and its global marketshare soared to a record 22 percent in Q4 2010.”

“The Samsung Galaxy Tab was the main driver of Android’s success, as the model was launched in dozens of countries and promoted heavily by Samsung. Tablet makers like Android because of its perceived low cost and an accompanying range of compelling media services such as YouTube and Google Maps,” he continued.
